Telemundo Boss Among Seven Killed In Kenya Helicopter Crash
A longtime Telemundo executive, José Suárez, was among seven people killed when a helicopter crashed near Mount Ololokwe in northern Kenya on Wednesday.
Suárez, 55, was among four Americans who died in the crash, according to the U.S. State Department.
He spent more than two decades with NBCUniversal, serving in senior leadership roles at stations in San Antonio, Sacramento, Fresno, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas before overseeing several Telemundo-owned stations in Florida.
NBCUniversal News Group Chairman Cesar Conde confirmed Suárez’s death in a message to employees, describing him as an exceptional colleague and mentor whose impact extended beyond the stations he led.
Before joining NBCUniversal, Suárez worked as a reporter and anchor for media organisations in Florida, Ohio and Texas.
The charter helicopter, operated by Lady Lori Kenya, crashed in Samburu County at about 9:13 a.m. local time while carrying six passengers and a pilot from Suyian Conservancy to Mount Ololokwe.
Lady Lori Kenya confirmed the accident and expressed condolences to the victims’ families, saying the cause of the crash had not yet been determined.
The company said it was cooperating fully with Kenyan authorities as investigations into the accident continue.
