‘Venezuela Will Happen In Nigeria’ — Melaye Warns Tinubu

Former lawmaker who represented Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will be out of office after the 2027 general elections.
Melaye also warned that what happened in Venezuela could happen in Nigeria.

The former senator made the remarks in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday amid renewed attention on U.S. records relating to allegations of drug trafficking involving Tinubu.

The development followed reports that U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell granted U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro four additional days concerning the release of records linked to the matter.

The allegations against Tinubu have been the subject of legal and political controversy, and the release of records does not in itself establish that the allegations are true.

Reacting to the development, Melaye wrote: “Home is calling. Work plenty for home. Tinubu must go. Venezuela go happen for Naija.”

His comment came months after U.S. authorities captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in January 2026 over charges including alleged drug trafficking and weapons offences.

Melaye’s statement adds to the growing political rhetoric ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, as opposition figures continue to criticise the Tinubu administration.
