Zamfara Gov Rejects Ransom Payments, Says Kidnappers Must Not Be Empowered

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his opposition to paying ransom or negotiating with kidnappers terrorising residents of the state.

Lawal stated this during a media chat on Monday, arguing that ransom payments only strengthen criminal groups and encourage further abductions.

The governor said previous attempts at negotiating with kidnappers had failed to produce positive results.

Recalling the 2025 abduction of his brothers, Lawal said he refused to pay the kidnappers despite their demands, insisting that he would not spend his money to fund criminals.

He maintained that while others may choose to pay ransom to secure abducted relatives, he remains committed to his position against financing kidnappers.
