Tinubu Tells New NBA President To Unite Bar, Address Election Concerns
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN) on her historic election as the first elected and second female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), urging her to unite the legal body and address issues that emerged during the election.
In a statement on Tuesday, the President described Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence as a watershed moment for the legal profession and a triumph of merit, excellence and gender inclusion.
Tinubu said the senior advocate’s distinguished career, marked by professionalism, integrity and commitment to justice, earned her the confidence of lawyers across the country.
He noted that her election reflects the growing recognition of women’s contributions to nation-building and the administration of justice.
The President expressed confidence that her leadership would strengthen the legal profession by upholding the rule of law and promoting reforms aimed at improving access to justice.
He also urged the new NBA president to work closely with stakeholders to advance judicial reforms, protect the sanctity of the Constitution and sustain the legal profession’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
While congratulating Badejo-Okusanya on her victory, Tinubu advised her to extend a hand of fellowship to her fellow contestants.
“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory. As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs Badejo-Okusanya has made history.
“I urge you to reach out to the other contestants, unify the Bar and make efforts to correct issues that arose during your election,” the President said.
Tinubu wished the new NBA president a successful tenure and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the association to deepen democratic governance, promote justice and build a more united and prosperous Nigeria.
