The military said the operations also led to the recovery of livestock and motorcycles, dealing another setback to terrorist groups operating in the North-West.

The Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops acting on credible intelligence moved into Wanke and Kaura communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State on 20 July 2026 after receiving reports of terrorist activities.

According to him, troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle at Kaura, forcing them to flee under superior firepower.

The operation resulted in the rescue of six kidnap victims, while livestock and two motorcycles were recovered. The victims have since been reunited with their families.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops stationed at Gandi, working alongside the State Security Community Guard Corps, rescued 10 kidnap victims who escaped from their abductors and were found wandering in the bush at Badanma community.

The rescued victims, comprising men, women and children, were handed over to community leaders before being reunited with their families.

On 21 July, troops of Combat Team 12 responded to a distress call along the Gummi–Sokoto Road, where terrorists had reportedly blocked the highway in an attempt to abduct commuters.

The troops engaged the attackers, rescued 11 kidnapped persons and recovered another motorcycle.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response, while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations against terrorists and criminal groups across the region.
