Oyo Takes Fresh Step To End Ibadan’s Waste Crisis

The Oyo State Government has taken fresh steps to strengthen house-to-house waste collection across Ibadan, as part of efforts to tackle indiscriminate dumping and improve sanitation in the metropolis.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, disclosed this during a meeting with Community Development Council (CDC) chairmen and waste consultants at the ministry’s NEWMAP Hall.
Aderinto said the engagement was aimed at improving collaboration among the government, community leaders and waste consultants to ensure the effective implementation of the waste collection policy.
He urged CDC chairmen to mobilise residents in their communities to embrace house-to-house waste collection, stressing that active community participation was essential to achieving a cleaner and healthier Oyo State.
The commissioner also called on waste consultants to improve their service delivery and work more closely with communities and the government.
He warned against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians, open spaces and other unauthorised locations, urging stakeholders to work together to end the practice.
