Osun Governorship: Tribunal Schedules Friday for Judgement
The petition filed by former Osun state governor, Gboyega Oyetola against Senator Ademola Adeleke, has been scheduled for Friday.
Mr. Oyetola had opposed the election result that favoured Senator Ademola Adeleke as
winner of the election conducted on July 16, 2022, by the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC)
David Umar, the Tribunal secretary signed the notice which was contained in a letter posted on the board of tribunal sitting.
The notice, however, stated that the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal would sit in Osogbo, the Osun State capital to deliver its judgment on Friday, 27th January between Adeleke and Oyetola
The formal Osun governor and APC candidate had asked the tribunal to nullify the election, hinging his case on alleged rigging by overvoting, infractions in some polling units, and the authenticity of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate presented by Governor Adeleke among other grounds.
The three-man election petitions tribunal, headed by Justice Tersea Kume on January 13 had adjourned indefinitely for judgment after parties in the petition adopted their final written addresses
However, a total number of 180 days stipulated in the Electoral Act within which to hear the petition, is expected to lapse on January 31, 2023.
