Banky W Marks One Year As Pastor, Says Election Loss Changed His Perspective
Nigerian singer, filmmaker and politician Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, says losing the 2023 House of Representatives election helped him reflect on his purpose and embrace multiple professional and spiritual responsibilities.
Banky W stated this on Thursday in an Instagram post marking his first anniversary in pastoral ministry in the United States.
He said the election defeat left him heartbroken, prompting him to surrender his plans to God and seek direction on his next assignment.
The entertainer said he eventually realised that leadership, entertainment, business and ministry did not have to be separate paths.
“I was asking God to choose between things He had never asked me to separate. It wasn’t either/or. It was all of the above,” he wrote.
Banky W said he continues to work as a filmmaker, musician and entrepreneur while serving as a pastor and professor, despite the demands of travelling between Lagos and the Washington, DC, area.
Reflecting on the setback, he said: “Sometimes what feels like the end of your story is really just God turning the page.”
Banky W contested the 2023 Eti-Osa Federal Constituency election in Lagos State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to Labour Party candidate Thaddeus Attah.
