APM Distances Self From Attack On APC Members, Calls for Probe
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State has denied any involvement in the reported attack on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.
The party’s Presidential Coordinator and Director-General of its Governorship Campaign Council, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran made the position known in a statement issued on Friday in response to allegations reportedly made by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation.
Adeniran described attempts to link the APM to the attack as unfounded, urging the APC to address its internal challenges rather than blame other political parties.
He also alleged that the APC had assembled a faction of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to support its political activities, insisting that the APM should not be held responsible for incidents involving such groups.
The APM chieftain called on security agencies to investigate the attack impartially, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable faces prosecution.
He maintained that the APM remained committed to peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, promising a campaign centred on policies, ideas and practical solutions to the state’s challenges.
“Our campaign will be driven by ideas, policies and practical solutions to the challenges confronting the people of Oyo State. We have no interest in political violence, intimidation or any activity capable of threatening public peace,” he said.
Adeniran also urged political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint, respect the rule of law and avoid making allegations without verifiable evidence.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a peaceful and issue-based campaign focused on the welfare, security and development of Oyo State.
