Osun Election: INEC Uploads 60% Results As Adeleke Wins First Polling Unit
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 60 per cent of the results from the ongoing Osun State governorship election to its Results Viewing Portal, popularly known as IReV, as collation continues across the state.
Voters across the 30 local government areas of Osun State went to the polls on Saturday to elect the next occupant of the Bola Ige Government House for a four-year term.
A total of 15 political parties were listed on the ballot, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Two candidates—Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM)—had withdrawn from the race.
While Adeyemi-Doro endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Adewale declared support for Adeleke. Both parties, however, remained on the ballot.
Adeleke recorded an early victory at his first polling unit, where the Accord Party won Polling Unit 026, Ward 5, in Osogbo Local Government Area.
According to the result declared at the polling unit, Accord polled 57 votes, defeating the APC, which scored 43 votes.
Results from other polling units across the state have continued to emerge as INEC proceeds with the collation process.
The election has, however, been overshadowed in some areas by reports of intimidation, vote-buying and other forms of electoral violence, although voting proceeded peacefully in many parts of the state.
With more results being uploaded to the IReV portal, attention is now shifting to the emerging figures from the various local government areas as the race for the Osun governorship enters the collation stage.
