Osun Poll: Adeleke Demands Release Of PDP Chairman
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has demanded the immediate release of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, who he said was arrested on Saturday.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after casting his vote in the ongoing governorship election.
Adeleke said the PDP chairman was taken to an undisclosed location and that no reason had been given for the arrest.
The governor described the development as an attempt to intimidate his supporters and alleged that the arrest was linked to a broader plan to restrict monitoring of the collation of election results.
“This latest sweep on my supporters… is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” Adeleke alleged.
He described any attempt to interfere with the collation process as an attack on democracy and urged security agencies and other institutions to remain neutral.
Adeleke also called for the release of Bisi and others he described as political prisoners across the state.
“Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force,” he said.
