Nationwide Military Crackdown Frees Over 40 Kidnap Victims, Nabs Terror Suspects
The Nigerian military says its troops rescued more than 40 kidnapped victims and arrested over 20 suspected terrorists, collaborators and other criminal suspects during coordinated operations carried out across the country between July 10 and 16.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, said the operations, conducted under various military formations alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes, also led to the killing of several terrorists, the recovery of weapons and the disruption of criminal networks.
According to him, troops recorded successes across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-South and South-East, rescuing kidnap victims, arresting suspected terrorist collaborators and logistics suppliers, as well as recovering arms, ammunition, vehicles and other exhibits.
Onoja said troops also secured the rescue of a school principal, a NECO official and two students abducted during an attack on an examination centre in Kogi State, while illegal oil refining sites were destroyed in Rivers State and suspected kidnappers neutralised in Edo State.
He added that the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, commended troops for their professionalism and praised security agencies for the intelligence-led operation that secured the unconditional release of the 44 pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.
The military urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence, assuring that sustained operations would continue until peace and security are restored across the country.
