LAUTECH Hospital Strike: Alli Accuses Makinde Of Neglecting Doctors

The campaign organisation of Oyo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration of neglecting medical workers amid prolonged industrial action in the state’s health sector.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO), through its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, described the strike by resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, as unacceptable.

The organisation said the strike, which had lasted more than 30 days, reflected concerns over workers’ welfare and working conditions.

It also raised the alarm over a 21-day warning strike declared by the Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State (AMDO) over unresolved issues relating to remuneration and conditions of service.

According to SSACO, the resident doctors are demanding payment of outstanding Medical Residency Training Fund and six months’ minimum wage arrears, among other entitlements.

It warned that prolonged industrial action could further disrupt healthcare delivery, leaving patients dependent on public hospitals struggling to access affordable and specialised medical services.

The organisation faulted Makinde for allegedly failing to engage the striking doctors to resolve their grievances, adding that patients were bearing the consequences of the dispute.

It described the simultaneous labour disputes as a warning sign for the state’s health sector and called on the government to address the workers’ demands.

The campaign organisation also outlined Alli’s position on healthcare, saying his Oyo AHEAD agenda prioritises the welfare of health workers and other civil servants.

It added that the agenda would provide for the payment of workers’ entitlements, training and retraining, as well as improved facilities for medical personnel.

SSACO urged the Makinde administration to take the grievances of health workers seriously and prevent further disruption of medical services across the state.
