Alumnus Rewards Excellence With ₦1m Gift To Alma Mater
An alumnus of Abiodun Atiba Memorial Institute, Oyo, Babatunde Tijani, has donated ₦1 million to reward outstanding graduating students and teachers as part of efforts to promote academic excellence and give back to his alma mater.
Tijani announced the donation during the school’s 45th valedictory service, where he served as the special guest of honour and was represented by his sister, Omobola Tijani.
The donation includes ₦200,000 each for the best graduating students in Science, Arts and Commerce, ₦200,000 for the overall best graduating student, and ₦200,000 for teachers in appreciation of their dedication and service.
The 45th valedictory service and prize-giving ceremony marked the second consecutive year of Tijani’s cash awards for outstanding students and teachers.
He donated ₦1 million in cash during the 2025 edition of the event.
Speaking on behalf of the donor, Omobola Tijani said the gesture was inspired by gratitude to the institution that helped shape his future and by the enduring legacy of their late father, Alhaji (Chief) Abdul Lateef Eyitayo Tijani, who served as the school’s vice principal between 1981 and 1988.
She urged the graduating students to remain disciplined, courageous and committed to excellence, reminding them that character would take them farther than certificates.
“Today marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Chase your dreams with courage, integrity and faith. The world needs young men and women who are not only educated but also disciplined, diligent and God-fearing,” she said.
The school’s principal, Rasak Reheem, commended Tijani for his unwavering support, describing him as a dependable partner in the school’s growth and development.
He disclosed that the alumnus had previously funded several projects, including the renovation of a six-classroom block, donation of 240 modern desks and chairs, installation of a borehole, renovation of the school mosque and annual sponsorship of the TJ BABS House during the school’s inter-house sports competition.
Reheem also encouraged the graduating students to build on the foundation laid during their secondary education and remain worthy ambassadors of the institution by shunning social vices.
The overall best graduating student and best Science student, Philip Abimbola, received ₦400,000, while Khadijat Abdulwahab and Rodiat Isiaka, who emerged as the best students in Commerce and Arts respectively, received ₦200,000 each.
