AAU Lecturers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Allowance Arrears
Lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, at Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, have commenced an indefinite strike over the alleged failure of the Edo State Government and university management to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
The union announced the strike in a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele, and Secretary, Dr William Odion, on Monday.
According to the statement, the industrial action began at 12:01am on Tuesday, August 25, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the state government and university management.
ASUU said the agreement remained unimplemented and that no formal commitment had been received from the authorities.
The union is also demanding payment of accrued allowance arrears from January 2026 to date.
Members have withdrawn teaching and lecturing services, examination duties, statutory meetings and supervision of students’ research projects, Industrial Training and Teaching Practice.
ASUU said its strike monitoring team had been activated and directed members to comply with the union’s resolutions.
