Lagos Building Collapse: One Dead, Two Rescued During Demolition

One person has died while two others were rescued after a two-storey building undergoing manual demolition collapsed in Aboru, Lagos State.

The incident occurred around 12:56am on Thursday at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, in Alimosho Local Government Area.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, told newsmen that the agency’s Alpha Eagle Response Team was deployed immediately after receiving a distress call.

He said preliminary findings showed that the structure collapsed during manual demolition, trapping workers beneath the debris.

Two adult males were rescued alive and given first aid by Lagos State Ambulance Service personnel before being taken to a nearby health facility. Another adult male was recovered dead.

LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS jointly handled the rescue operation, while the area was cordoned off to protect residents and emergency workers.

Oke-Osanyintolu urged residents and developers to comply with building regulations and use certified professionals for demolition and construction work. He also advised residents to report unsafe activities through the 767 or 112 emergency lines.
