Bwala Again Denies Calling Tinubu ‘Illegitimate President’, Blames Aisha Yesufu
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has again denied ever describing his principal as an “illegitimate President”.
Bwala made the clarification during an interview on the KAA TRUTHS podcast, where he also accused activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Aisha Yesufu, of repeatedly referring to Tinubu as illegitimate.
The presidential aide said Yesufu’s continued position was borne out of what he described as her ignorance of the law, despite the Supreme Court’s verdict on the 2023 presidential election.
“Nobody in Nigeria, even the opposition, including Kenneth Okonkwo, called the President illegitimate. It is only Aisha and that’s because she is ignorant and doesn’t know what the law is,” Bwala said.
He argued that once an election dispute had been taken to the highest court and the court upheld the validity of the election, the issue of the legitimacy of the elected president should no longer be questioned.
“Even if a person won an election that is flawed, and that election is litigated to the highest court of the land whose decision is final in all authorities and they said that the election was valid, from that moment you should back away,” he said.
Bwala has faced questions over comments he allegedly made against Tinubu during his time in the opposition before he became an ally of the President.
Asked directly whether he had ever described Tinubu as an illegitimate president, Bwala maintained that he had not.
“I never called the President illegitimate,” he insisted.
“If you have it, pull it out,” Bwala added, challenging anyone with evidence of such a statement to produce it.
