‘Just Like Her Father, Dolly Farmed Songs And Happiness’ — Bryan Seaver
Dolly Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, has paid tribute to the late country music icon, describing her as a woman who “farmed songs and happiness” just as her father farmed the soil.
Seaver made the emotional remark in a video announcing Parton’s death at the age of 80 on Tuesday.
Representing the Parton and Owens families, Seaver said he had imagined making the announcement for years after Parton asked him to do so.
He described the moment as one filled with “absolute pride and great sadness”, but said the sadness belonged to the family and not to Parton, who he believed had “lived in the light”.
Seaver, who served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, recalled travelling with her as a child in the early 1980s.
He said Parton opened doors not only for him and her family but also for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers around the world.
“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history,” he said.
Reflecting on her humble beginnings, Seaver said: “Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy. He farmed the soil. She farmed songs and happiness.”
He added that Parton had asked to rest in “a beautiful bed of plush cotton” after a lifetime of wearing heavy rhinestones.
“Rest in peace, Aunt Dolly, Aunt Granny, Gigi. May God bless Dolly Parton… She will always love you,” he said.
