Nearly 30 Years Later, Tupac’s Alleged Killer Finally Goes On Trial

Nearly three decades after hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur was fatally shot in Las Vegas, the man accused of orchestrating his killing is finally facing trial.

A jury has been selected for the murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, who is accused of masterminding the 1996 killing of Shakur.

The jury was finalised on Thursday after three days of questioning by prosecutors and defence attorney Michael Sanft. Opening statements are scheduled for Monday.

Prosecutors allege that Davis was the “shot-caller” who planned the attack against Shakur and Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight in retaliation for an earlier confrontation involving Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand.

Authorities have also cited statements attributed to Davis as helping revive the investigation.

In a memoir he has since disputed writing, Davis reportedly described placing a gun in the back seat of the Cadillac he was travelling in, allegedly allowing another man to carry out the shooting.

Shakur was shot near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996, and died six days later at the age of 25.

Davis has pleaded not guilty. His trial is expected to revisit one of the most notorious killings in hip-hop history.
