Video:Osun Poll: Tear Gas, Seized Materials Disrupt Voting In Modakeke
Voting was reportedly disrupted at Modakeke Ward 10, Osun State, on Saturday after suspected police officers allegedly fired tear gas at voters and carted away election materials shortly before voting was due to commence.
In a video from the scene seen by Pendulum Media, a witness could be heard questioning why police officers would fire tear gas at voters as preparations for voting were being completed.
The witness also alleged that the officers took away the election materials from the polling area, prompting voters, election officials and party agents to flee.
“Why would the police officers shoot tear gas at voters?” the witness was heard saying in the video.
The polling area had reportedly been peaceful before the incident, according to the witness.
The development caused panic in the area, with election officials and party agents reportedly abandoning the polling location for their safety.
