Otu Expands Health Workforce, Approves Recruitment of 40 Doctors
Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has approved the recruitment of 40 additional medical doctors to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state’s 17 public hospitals.
The State Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, disclosed this in Calabar on Monday, saying the recruitment forms part of the administration’s efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and address the shortage of medical personnel in government health facilities.
According to Ayuk, the exercise will include the recruitment of 20 Medical Officers, 10 Senior Medical Officers and 10 Consultant Medical Specialists.
He said the vacancies would be advertised, while the Cross River State Civil Service Commission would oversee the recruitment process in line with established procedures.
The commissioner added that the newly recruited doctors would benefit from the recently approved 100 per cent Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for medical officers in the state’s public service.
He said the improved remuneration package is designed to boost the welfare of doctors, attract qualified professionals and retain skilled medical personnel within the state’s health system.
Ayuk explained that the recruitment would ensure each of the state’s 17 public hospitals has an average of three to four doctors, thereby improving the quality, efficiency and accessibility of healthcare services.
He described Governor Otu’s approval as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector through strategic investment in human resources.
The commissioner expressed confidence that the additional medical personnel would enhance service delivery and improve health outcomes for residents across Cross River State.
