Wike: Politicians Used Fubara, Dumped Him When He Returned
PORT HARCOURT — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that some politicians manipulated Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara into confronting him before abandoning the governor when he chose to reconcile with his former political family.
Speaking during a special media chat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike claimed those who encouraged Fubara to challenge him lacked the capacity to sustain the political battle they instigated.
According to the former Rivers State governor, Fubara placed too much confidence in the politicians, who have now turned against him following his decision to seek reconciliation.
“Unfortunately, they used Fubara. To tell you the truth, the governor overrated them. They had no capacity at all to fight, and they saw it,” Wike said.
The minister further alleged that the same individuals who once stood behind the governor are now openly criticising him because they no longer have access to public funds.
“Now, when the governor decided to return to his political family, go and see how they are abusing him now. Because there is no longer opportunity to syphon money, so they are abusing him,” he added.
Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Rivers State following months of tension between the governor and his predecessor, which plunged the oil-rich state into a prolonged political crisis.
