Tragedy: 13-Year-Old Girl Dies Hours After Release From Kidnappers in Kaduna
- A 13-year-old girl who spent seven months in kidnappers’ captivity has died just hours after regaining her freedom in Kaduna State.
The teenager was among 11 residents abducted when gunmen attacked Awon community in Kachia Local Government Area on April 21, 2026. Two people were reportedly killed during the attack.
The President of the Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA), Dr Joseph David Ariko, disclosed the development in an interview with Leadership.
Ariko said one of the abducted victims, a woman, escaped about two months after the attack, while seven of the remaining captives were released on November 3.
Their freedom reportedly came after their families paid over ₦6 million and surrendered three motorcycles to the abductors. The combined value of the cash and motorcycles was estimated at about ₦13 million.
But for the 13-year-old, freedom came tragically late. Ariko said she died in hospital on the day of her release while receiving medical attention.
The victims reportedly returned in the early hours of November 3, but the teenager could not survive long enough to begin life outside captivity.
The circumstances surrounding her death and the medical cause have yet to be established.
