Thugs Allegedly Attack ADC Presidential Campaign Convoy In Kebbi, Destroy Media Equipment
The presidential campaign convoy of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly come under attack by suspected political thugs in Kebbi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday as Atiku’s convoy moved through the state for campaign engagements ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to accounts from the campaign team, the suspected attackers blocked the convoy, pelted vehicles with stones and targeted members of the media crew covering the campaign.
The team disclosed that several pieces of equipment belonging to its camera and video crew were destroyed during the incident.
“Most of the gadgets belonging to the camera and video crew were destroyed in the attack. Cameras, video equipment, tripods and other working tools were smashed, leaving the crew unable to continue live coverage of the campaign,” the campaign team said.
The ADC campaign team described the attackers as sponsored thugs, alleging that the incident was deliberately planned to intimidate supporters and prevent media coverage of the campaign.
A member of the campaign team, who spoke on the incident, said the attackers appeared more interested in destroying recording equipment than stealing valuables.
“The thugs did not come to steal. They came to destroy. They targeted our cameras and video crew because they did not want Nigerians to see what is happening here in Kebbi,” the campaign team member said.
The development comes amid growing political tensions as parties intensify activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the allegation of APC sponsorship has not been independently established, and no response from the APC or the Kebbi State Police Command was available at the time of filing this report.
