Nigeria Police Begin Nationwide Crackdown On Cultism Through Community Engagement
The Nigeria Police Force has commenced a nationwide campaign to combat cultism and other social vices through community engagement, marking a renewed effort to tackle youth-related crime and strengthen preventive policing across the country.
The initiative, known as the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), was launched by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is set to be implemented across all State Commands.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, said the campaign is designed to address cultism, drug abuse, violent crime, and other social vices through grassroots sensitisation, early intervention, and sustained community engagement.
According to the statement, the campaign will bring together schools, communities, religious organisations, traditional institutions, youth groups, and other stakeholders to promote positive values, discourage criminal behaviour, and protect young people from the influence of cult groups and other criminal networks.
The police noted that the initiative reflects the Force’s commitment to proactive and preventive policing, with a focus on building safer communities through collaboration and public participation.
