Gowon To Christians: Stand In Prayer For Nigeria’s Peace And Progress
ABUJA — Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has called on Christians across Nigeria to remain steadfast in praying for the nation’s peace, unity, and continued progress.
Gowon made the appeal on Sunday during the ongoing Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) in Abuja, urging believers not to grow weary in seeking God’s intervention for the country.
“Don’t stop praying for the country,” the elder statesman said, stressing the need for consistent intercession at a time when Nigeria faces various challenges.
The former military leader, who has dedicated much of his post-retirement years to peacebuilding and national intercessory prayer, noted that Nigeria is richly endowed with abundant human and natural resources.
He, however, urged patriotic citizens to unite against individuals and groups working to undermine the nation’s peace and development.
According to Gowon, Nigerians of goodwill must stand together to resist forces bent on destabilising the country and to promote national unity and stability.
Also speaking during the Global Sunday Worship Service, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry (DLCM), Pastor William Kumuyi, encouraged Christians to remain confident in God’s unfailing care despite prevailing challenges.
In his sermon, Kumuyi assured worshippers that Jesus Christ remains faithful and urged believers to trust God in every situation, expressing confidence that divine intervention would bring stability and victory.
“Those who know their God shall do exploits,” he declared, adding, “Even in the worst of times, you will be at your best by the power of Christ.”
The Global Crusade with Kumuyi, which began in Abuja on June 24, 2026, is expected to conclude on Sunday evening.
