JUST- IN: Emefiele Loses At Supreme Court As Asset Forfeiture Stands
Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele has lost his legal challenge against the forfeiture of his properties after the Supreme Court upheld the seizure of the assets.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, the apex court overturned an earlier decision of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, which had ordered a retrial of the case.
The Supreme Court restored the judgment of the Federal High Court in Lagos, which had ordered the final forfeiture of the properties linked to the former CBN governor.
The ruling effectively brings to an end Emefiele’s legal battle over the assets, with the apex court affirming that the forfeiture order remains valid.
The decision marks another significant judicial development in the ongoing legal proceedings involving the former apex bank chief.
