Insecurity: Tambuwal Residents Take Protest To Sokoto Streets
Residents of Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Friday took to the streets to protest worsening insecurity in their communities.
The protest followed a series of attacks by suspected bandits, including the recent assault on Girkau community in Kebbe LGA, where one person was killed and an INEC staff member working in Tambuwal was abducted.
The protesters called on the Federal and Sokoto State governments to urgently strengthen security and protect lives and property.
They demanded the deployment of more security personnel and operational equipment, as well as intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations.
The residents said the insecurity had heightened fear among farmers, traders and rural dwellers whose livelihoods depend on access to farms and markets.
They also urged better coordination among security agencies to track down the attackers and prevent further incidents.
The protesters warned that continued attacks could force residents to abandon their homes and farmlands for safer locations, with serious consequences for agriculture and livelihoods.
Confirming the protest, Sokoto State Police spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said the command was aware of the situation and that security operatives were “on top of the situation.”
He said the police were monitoring developments and taking necessary measures to protect lives and property in the affected communities.
