Electric Wire To Protect Tinubu Billboard? Nigerians Draw Contrast With Insecurity
A video showing what appears to be electric fencing wire installed around a pole supporting a billboard bearing the images of President Bola Tinubu and Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has sparked reactions on social media.
The post accompanying the video said the wire was apparently installed to prevent people from destroying the billboard. However, the location of the billboard and the circumstances surrounding the installation have not been independently established.
The footage has triggered debate, with several commenters questioning why such protection would be provided for a political billboard while Nigerians continue to face insecurity and other challenges.
Reacting to the video, an X user, @omoopee_, argued that the measure reflected public dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its policies.
Another user, @doris8887, criticised politicians over what they described as misplaced priorities, saying, “When we call for security and protection against bandits, they run out of ideas.”
Similarly, @Climaxx_empire questioned the apparent effort to protect the billboard, arguing that politicians had not shown the same level of commitment to protecting citizens facing kidnapping and killings.
For @emmachidi, the development raised questions about the relationship between governance and political support.
“If you are doing well, you shouldn’t be scared that people would remove your billboard. You had 4 years to work, make people love you,” the user wrote, adding that a politician’s performance should speak louder than campaign publicity.
Another commenter, @Jackkalle, described the situation as ironic, contrasting the protection of a political billboard with concerns over basic services in Niger State.
However, not all reactions were critical. @Lightbringers05 accused some critics of intolerance towards people who support a different political candidate, arguing that Nigerians should be free to express their political preferences.
The reactions come as campaign posters and political banners increasingly appear in public spaces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While the video’s location and the reason for the installation remain unclear, the debate has drawn attention to broader public concerns about political accountability, security and the priorities of elected leaders.
