The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, when three armed hoodlums attacked a broken-down petrol tanker on the Ikole–Oye Road.

The suspects reportedly robbed the tanker driver and his motor boy of their mobile phones before abducting them into a nearby bush, where they tied both victims to a tree.

After abducting the victims, the hoodlums returned to the tanker and removed six truck tyres, loading them into an ash-coloured Ford minibus with the intention of fleeing towards Kogi State.

However, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted the vehicle, recovered all six stolen tyres and arrested two suspects identified as Ezekiel Balogun and Usman Wada, both from Kabba, Kogi State. A third suspect escaped and remains at large.

Police said the arrested suspects later led operatives to the bush where the kidnapped tanker driver and his motor boy were rescued unharmed.

The Command added that the case has been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for further investigation, while efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect and prosecute all those involved.

Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial in tackling crime and ensuring the safety of communities.
