According to CNN, citing Chinese state media, the tornado struck late Monday evening, unleashing winds of up to 260 kilometres per hour and leaving a trail of destruction across the affected areas.

The report said the tornado was so powerful that it sucked a man out of his apartment on the 12th floor of a residential building, highlighting the intensity of the storm.

Emergency responders were deployed to rescue trapped residents, treat the injured and assess the extensive damage caused by the extreme weather.

Authorities said the tornado destroyed buildings, uprooted trees and disrupted power supply in several communities as rescue and recovery efforts continued.

The latest disaster has renewed concerns over the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in parts of China, where torrential rains, floods and powerful storms have affected several regions in recent years.
