Bird Strike: United Nigeria Withdraws Aircraft From Service
United Nigeria Airlines has withdrawn one of its aircraft from service after it was involved in a bird strike at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The airline said the incident occurred on its Embraer 190 aircraft while Flight UN0523 was arriving at the airport on September 1, 2026.
In a statement posted on its X page on Wednesday, the airline said its maintenance team detected evidence of a bird strike on the aircraft’s right engine during a routine post-flight inspection.
According to the airline, the incident occurred at 21:40 UTC.
United Nigeria said the aircraft was withdrawn in line with its safety protocols and would undergo further inspection and maintenance.
The airline added that the development would affect its flight schedule, with some passengers expected to experience disruptions.
It apologised to affected passengers and assured them that necessary support was being provided.
