Obasanjo Opens Up to Chude on Relationship with Jonathan, Buhari Despite His Criticism

Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo has opened up on his relationships with former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

Obasanjo, who is known for his open letter writings to both Presidents was reminded about attending Jonathan’s daughter’s wedding a week after criticizing him.

Reacting, he said people do not understand the different relationships he has with them, one as friends and the other in terms of governance.

He said:

“This is part of what you people don’t understand.

“There is a difference between my social relationship with you and my relationship with you as far as Nigeria is concerned.

“I still hold that position. It is the same position I hold with Buhari.

“Buhari on the 1st of January this year, phoned me to wish me Happy New Year. And I said Mr President, I really appreciate this.

“And I told him that ‘Mr President, I want to wish you rest as you leave office’. I told you to let me know when he settles down, I will come and visit him.

“But what he has done for Nigeria is on record, even if you want to whitewash it.

“Some people cannot separate that and it is unfortunate. If you are my son and you do what is wrong, you will be punished. But I am still your father.”
