JUST-IN: Ghanaian Playwright, Ama Ata Aidoo Dies at 81
Renowned playwright and former education minister has died, her family announced.
Aidoo’s family, in a press release, said the writer passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a brief illness.
The statement read:
“with deep sorrow but in the hope of the resurrection, informs the general public that our beloved relative and writer passed away in the early hours of this morning Wednesday, May 31, 2023, after a short illness.”
While requesting the public to honour their privacy as they grieve, the family head, Kwamena Essandoh Aidoo added that the funeral details will be announced in due course.”
Ama Ata Aidoo was a poet, playwright, and academic popularly known for her play text, ‘Dilemma of a Ghost’.
She was born on March 23, 1942, and died on May 31st, 2023.
