Suspected Police Officer Killer Arrested in Ibadan

Oyo Police Command in its commitment to protect the lives and property of the good people of Oyo State has announced the arrest of suspected armed robbers who killed a police officer in Ibadan, during a robbery operation.

The State’s police public relations officer, Mr. Adewale Osifeso disclosed this during a press briefing at police headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan.

Osifeso explained that in a bid to
completely dislodged criminal elements in the state, there have been continuous strategic reviews and periodic restructuring of the Command’s security architecture to tackle any emerging or evolving security challenge.

“Moving forward, in tune with our proactive policing strategy and reacting to emerging security challenges the State will witness more security presence”.

While parading the suspects, the police spokesperson said the efforts at putting an end to the emerging reports of robbery attacks and harassment by criminal elements around Ori-Agogo, Odo-Ona Kekere axis, and environs received a major boost as Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department apprehended suspects in connection with the heinous crimes.

“Recall that, On 29/04/ 2023 a group of Suspected Armed Robbers, numbering five (5) invaded Ori-Agogo area of odo-Ona Kekere in Ibadan and robbed several residents of their belongings.”

“During the robbery operation, ASP Ogunleye Olufemi Daniel, serving at the State CID Iyaganku and who was a resident in the community was killed by the assailants having robbed him and other members of his family”.

Further, the police PRO said that the case has been transferred from Idi-Ayunre Police Divisional Headquarters to the SCID Iyaganku for more investigation.

“Consequently, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti- Robbery section immediately swung into action and tracked the suspects using a mobile phone found at the scene of the crime”

“Three (3) suspects including their spiritual healer one Gabriel Adeniyi ‘m’ 80yrs, Oyetumbi Ademola ‘m’ 25 yrs, Michael Adeniyi ‘m’ 26 yrs were arrested, while their gang leader named Fatai Fasasi ‘m’ 30 yrs, popularly known as Ogun who allegedly shot and killed, the deceased Officer, was neutralized at an encounter with Police operatives during their trail.”

“This far, two (2) Samsung phones belonging to their victims alongside; a 1999 Hyundai Elantra vehicle (Their getaway car) and a cut to size locally made barrel used by the assailants have been recovered.”

In the same vein, during the process of voluntarily confessing to the crimes committed, they further revealed one Kafilat Tiamiyu ‘f’ a.k.a Iya Alaye as a criminal receiver who receives Jewelry (golds) proceeds from them, based on this, the said Kafilat Tiamiyu was tracked and arrested at Oranyan area of Ibadan.”

He, however, warned against unprovoked attacks on its Officers during the discharge of their duties noting such would no longer be condoned. He vowed that heavy sanctions await those found culpable.

Meanwhile, the Oyo Police Command Oyo state, also stated that it is concerned about the spike in rates of suicide cases recorded during April, and thereby, advocated that citizens must pay huge attention to their mental health and as well the general well-being of others.

“In addition, the Command wishes to appreciate the consistent solid partnership and goodwill extended to her by other sister agencies and all other security stakeholders in the battle against crime and its corresponding offshoots.”

In another development, the Oyo State Police Command on behalf of the Force Education Officer wishes to announce the Change in date of its 2023/2024 Entrance/Admission Exams into Police Children Secondary Schools in Oyo State from the 03/06/2023 to 10/06/2023.

He urged parents and guardians to take special note of the information, please.

In view of the above, he said the Command enjoined residents and other well meaning citizens to partner with it to ensure criminal elements in the State are completely neurtralised.
