Actor Abiodun Ayoyinka aka ‘Papa Ajasco’ Debunks Death Rumour
Abiodun Ayoyinka, the first eponymous character in the Wale Adenuga Nigerian Drama series “Papa Ajasco and Company” has debunked death rumours.
Earlier on Sunday, a theatre practitioner, Husseini Shaibu, released a statement about the passing of ‘Papa Ajasco’ via his Twitter handle.
He wrote, “I have just been reliably informed that the ethnomusicologist, former Music Instructor with #NATIONALTROUPE and one-time-stand- for the ‘Papa Ajasco’ character on the popular #waleadenugaprod comic series ‘Papa Ajasco’ Mr. Femi Ogunrombi is dead.”
The news which had since gone viral has reached Mr. Abiodun Ayoyinka also known as Papa Ajasco whom people mistook for Mr. Femi Ogunrombi, a “Papa Ajasco” character.
Obviously, from Mr. Husseini Shaibu, Twitter post, the Late Mr. Femi Ogunrombi had once stood in for Mr. Ayoyinka’s role as ‘Papa Ajasco’ character in the drama series.
Reacting, Mr. Abiodun Ayoyinka released a video on social media to declare that he is alive and well.
“My name is Abiodun Ayoyinka popularly known as Papa Ajasco. I am not dead, I am still alive, and thank you very much my fans out there for your concern. I appreciate you, people. Ogigbigibigibigibe.” He said.
Interestingly, it seems Nigerians were confused with the characters’ real names and physical appearance because they both bear the same fictitious name of the eponymous character as well as wear a similar striking physical resemblance on set in the Wale Adenuga Nigerian Family Television Drama series, ‘Papa Ajasco and Company’.
Papa Ajasco and Company (formerly The Ajasco Family) is a Nigerian Drama series created by Wale Adenuga in 1996 considered to be Nigeria’s most-watched comedy series, viewed weekly in twelve African countries.
It is a fictitious story that features different comedic interpretations of social issues as it revolves around Papa Ajasco’s family.
The main characters include the womanizing patriarch Papa Ajasco, his long-suffering wife Mama Ajasco, their mischievous son Bobo Ajasco, local playboy Boy Alinco, promiscuous gold-digger Miss Pepeiye, and illiterate ne’er-do-wells Pa James.
