Several travellers on Friday night were reportedly abducted on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by assailants dressed in military garb.
The occurrence happened close to Dominion University City of Faith, near KM 24, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
As a result of the predicament, several vehicles decided to travel the other way, and tension on the road increased.
The kidnappers, who were dressed in military uniform, were seen approaching out of the woods when they launched what the traveller (name withheld) characterized as a premeditated attack.
He said in a dialogue with Newsarena.ng that the kidnappers opened fire from behind, killing no fewer than two passengers and injuring others in varying degrees.
When he and three other co-workers arrived at the Onigari axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at around 4:30 p.m, they saw some military personnel in the nearby bush and wondered what they might be doing there.
“We were lucky to get cover from the vehicles in front and behind us because our vehicle was in the middle when they suddenly emerged from the bush from the front and back and started firing from there.
We quickly hid in the bushes and remained there for almost 40 minutes before emerging. While we attempted to get in touch with the family of the man who was also hit by a bullet to let them know about the attack, he passed away and other people suffered terrible injuries.” He narrates
The man went on to say that several vehicles involved in the incident were damaged due to the drivers’ attempts to navigate themselves out of the situation.
It was traumatic, so I don’t wish it upon my enemies, he said in conclusion.
Three private cars were damaged but the number of people kidnapped is unknown, according to a second eyewitness who spoke with Daily Trust.
Drivers and residents were reportedly terrified, according to the eyewitness who was driving from Lagos to Ibadan.
“I can confirm that some drivers have just been abducted close to Dominion University in Ibadan,” he stated. Although several vehicles were forced to turn around, the road is now clear as I speak to you.
“I noticed three cars with their doors wide open, and not a single person was located inside any of the cars, and there is no sign of where they fled to,” the witness said.
“One of the cars crashed into the wall with its bonnet as the car behind it jammed it, but there was no trace of an accident. The fact that the vehicles were deserted convinces us that it was a kidnapping.
“At first, we taught it was a robbery but if it was not. We should have seen those that were robbed. There was nobody at the scene when my vehicle got there.”
The witness claimed that as they left the area, they noticed some hunters and vigilantes making their way toward the scene of the crime.
