Utomi Questions Relentless Attacks On Peter Obi Despite His Third-Place Finish In 2023
A professor of political economy, Pat Utomi, has questioned the growing hostility towards former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, despite his third-place finish in the 2023 presidential election.
Utomi raised the concern in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday, saying there was no convincing explanation for the intensity of attacks against Obi from different quarters.

“There is no convincing explanation for why a candidate who finished third in the 2023 presidential election attracts this level of hostility from all directions.
“The intensity of the attacks raises questions that Nigerians deserve answers to. Perhaps one day, we will finally understand what really happened in 2023,” he wrote.
Although Utomi did not mention any individual or political party responsible for the attacks, his comments come amid a series of verbal assaults on Obi by prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figures.
Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, recently launched attacks on Obi during the APC’s presidential campaign rallies in Ekiti and Akwa Ibom states.
Similarly, Vice President Kashim Shettima, while speaking in Akwa Ibom State on Friday, accused Obi of undermining his presidential ambition with lies.
President Bola Tinubu also took a swipe at the former Anambra governor, claiming that Obi ran away from the challenge of erosion in his state, while he confronted the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos.
