New Legal Year: Oyo Attorney-General Warns Against Division Among Law Officers
The Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Ayodeji Abiodun Aikomo, has urged law officers in the state to shun grudges, disunity and ill feelings, stressing that unity and teamwork are essential to the effective administration of justice.
Aikomo made the appeal during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Oyo State Chapter, to mark the commencement of the new legal year.
The event featured a legal procession, goodwill messages and prayers.
Addressing the officers, the Attorney-General called for mutual respect, understanding and a shared commitment to the growth of the Ministry, warning that internal divisions could undermine its ability to fulfil its responsibilities.
He urged them to approach the new legal year with the fear of God and a renewed sense of collective responsibility, noting that a house divided against itself could not stand.
The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mrs Oluwabunmi Are, also charged law officers to uphold professionalism, ethical conduct, diligence and impartiality.
She reminded them that their positions carried a responsibility to serve the public with honesty, humility and accountability, adding that a strong Ministry of Justice required cooperation, mentorship and mutual respect.
Are commended the leadership of LOAN under its state chairman, Mrs D. O. Collins.
Earlier, Collins acknowledged the demanding responsibilities of law officers and urged members to maintain high standards of discipline, competence and professional ethics. She reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the welfare and professional recognition of its members, while calling on senior lawyers to mentor and guide younger colleagues.
The ceremony ended with prayers led by Mr O. W. Ogunniran and Mrs G. O. Sanni for divine wisdom, guidance and strength for the Ministry in the new legal year.
