Police Repel Bandit Attack, Discover Over 30 Bodies In Zamfara Farmlands

The Zamfara State Police Command says more than 30 decomposed bodies believed to be those of bandits have been discovered in farmlands following a gun battle with security operatives in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

The discovery was made during ongoing clearance operations launched on October 28, 2026, after armed bandits attempted to attack Bukkuyum town.

Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the operation involved personnel of the command working alongside local civil security outfits.

According to the statement, security operatives engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, repelling the assault and preventing them from advancing into the town.

The police said the security personnel demonstrated courage and professionalism despite what it described as a significant disparity in firepower between them and the armed group.

It added that more than 30 bodies believed to belong to neutralised bandits were subsequently found in surrounding farmlands.

The command, however, cautioned that the actual number of casualties was still being verified, noting that armed bandits were known to evacuate their injured and dead members from confrontation sites.

The police said the successful defence of Bukkuyum prevented potential casualties and destruction of property in the community.

It further disclosed that preliminary security assessments suggested that sustained pressure from security operations had forced some of the remaining armed groups to leave the state.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the clearance operations alongside other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to tackle armed criminal activities and improve security across the area.
