SSACO Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plan To Allocate Cheshire Home Land To Developers

The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has warned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde against any move to sell or allocate the land belonging to Cheshire Home in Eleyele, Ibadan, to private developers, raising concerns over the management of public assets.

The organisation alleged that the reported plan could deepen concerns about the transfer of valuable public properties to private commercial interests under the Makinde administration.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO said recurring controversies surrounding public land and property had raised questions about the government’s stewardship of the state’s collective assets.

It argued that strategically located public land should be preserved for future generations and remain available for essential services, including schools, hospitals, recreational facilities and social welfare institutions.

“What will be left for future generations if every strategically located public property is converted into a private estate, shopping complex or commercial development?” the organisation asked.

SSACO maintained that public assets should not be disposed of without transparency, public consultation and compelling justification.

It therefore called on Makinde to halt any contemplated sale or allocation of the Cheshire Home land to private developers and urged the government to ensure that transactions involving public assets meet the highest standards of transparency and accountability.

“Oyo State belongs to its people, and its collective inheritance must be protected,” the statement added.

The organisation did not provide details of the alleged proposed transaction in the statement. The claim has not been independently verified, and no response from the Oyo State Government was included.
