Obi Endorses Makinde For Presidency, Vows To Support Any Genuine 2027 Winner
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared that his Allied Peoples Movement (APM) counterpart, Seyi Makinde, is qualified to become President of Nigeria.
Obi made the declaration on Monday during the inauguration of Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja.
The former Anambra State governor also pledged to work with any presidential candidate who emerges victorious in the 2027 election through a free, fair and credible process.
Obi said the country needed unity and inclusion rather than political rivalry, stressing that the priority of politicians should be improving the welfare of Nigerians.
“We want a Nigeria of unity, inclusion; we have a candidate who is contesting for President today, my dear brother Makinde. Is he qualified to be President? Yes, he is qualified,” Obi said.
He added, “What we are doing today, for us is not about desperation but we want Nigerians to make their choice. All of us should come together to build a new Nigeria. We can’t continue the way we are going, our people are hungry and poor.
“Whoever wins genuinely from a free, fair, and credible election, we will all work together to save this country from collapse.”
Obi called on politicians to embrace a new approach to political engagement, saying disagreements should focus on finding solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerians.
“That’s why I’m here to show solidarity and assure you that we are changing the system, we don’t want politics of quarrel, politics of disagreement. Let our quarrel be to feed our people,” he said.
The NDC candidate added that his vision was for a country where every Nigerian, regardless of background or connections, would have an opportunity to succeed.
“We want a Nigeria where the child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody,” Obi said.
