Uganda Declared Ebola-Free After 42 Days Without New Case
Uganda has been officially declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) after going 42 days without a new confirmed case.
The declaration follows the discharge of the country’s last confirmed Ebola patient on July 16, with no documented onward transmission linked to the case.
The WHO commended Uganda’s government, health workers and partners for their efforts to contain the outbreak and prevent its wider spread.
Uganda recorded 20 confirmed Ebola cases during the outbreak, including two deaths. Most of the cases were linked to people who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The development comes as neighbouring DRC continues to battle a worsening Ebola outbreak, making Uganda’s containment of the disease a significant public health achievement.
