Igboho Launches Iru Ekun Security Network In Ogun, Warns Members Against Indiscipline
Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has formally launched the Ogun State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network.
The launch, held on Wednesday, attracted a large crowd of supporters, with videos from the event showing hundreds of volunteers dressed in matching black outfits and caps.
Speaking at the event, Igboho outlined plans for the training, deployment and identification of members, while warning them against indiscipline and reckless behaviour.
“You must have discipline. Do not engage in reckless behaviour or ruin things just because they have trained you and you have ID card,” he told the gathering.
Igboho said the Federal Government would determine who would train members, while the Ogun State Governor’s Office would decide where they would be deployed.
He added that members would receive identification cards at the local government level after completing their training.
According to him, the Ogun State Government had also assured the group of its support and would determine a monthly allowance for members.
“The Governor has also given us assurance. They have given us support here, and they will decide what monthly allowance to provide to us, to support us, because we have wives, and we have children,” he said.
Igboho said the broader plan was to establish officially recognised Iru Ekun units across the South-West to complement efforts against kidnapping, banditry and other crimes.
Iru Ekun, meaning “leopard’s tail” in Yoruba, is a community-based security initiative founded by Igboho.
The Ogun launch follows earlier inaugurations of the initiative in other South-West states.
