Osun Decides: Calm Morning as Osogbo Awaits Voting
Security personnel and election officials were deployed across the Osun State capital as voters prepared to cast their ballots.
Osogbo, the Osun State capital, remained calm on Saturday morning as voters began arriving at polling units for the governorship election.
Checks across Ogo-Oluwa, Alekuwodo, Baruwa, Jaleyemi, Okefia, Fagbewesa, Isale-Aro, Asubiaro, Gbodofon, Awosuru, the Capital area and Tinumola showed no immediate signs of major disturbances.
Police and other security personnel were deployed at polling locations, while INEC ad-hoc officials, including NYSC members serving as presiding and assistant presiding officers, were also on ground.
Voter registers had been displayed at some polling units for eligible voters to verify their names, while local and international observers were sighted at several locations.
Some residents were seen heading to their polling units, while others remained at home awaiting the commencement of accreditation and voting.
A resident of Ogo-Oluwa, Wale Ajelogbon, said voters were prepared to exercise their franchise peacefully.
“We are ready to vote. We want everything to remain peaceful throughout the election,” he said.
Normal morning activities continued in several parts of the city as residents awaited the full commencement of the voting exercise.
