A classroom building containing final year students of Government Secondary School, Namnai in Gasol local government area of Taraba State collapsed on Wednesday.
The Leadership News read that the students escaped death when the building suddenly collapsed following a heavy downpour.
It was reported that the occupants of the room at the time of the incident which included; students, teachers, supervisors, and corps members and were trapped for hours before a rescue team arrived from the community.
Despite none was recorded dead,
many of the students and non students sustained various degrees of injuries on the legs, hands and arms.
A resident, Alhaji DanAzumi Lauris told Daily Trust in a telephone interview that the classrooms collapsed on the second set of the students as the first set had finished their exams and left.
DanAzumi explained that the incident occurred at about 6pm on Wednesday, few minutes after the students began the exams when heavy rainfall accompanied by wind storm started in the town.
He, however said the injured students, teachers and corps members were moved to Primary Healthcare Centre located few metres away from the school where they were receiving treatment.
DanAzumi added that aside from the school, many houses were also destroyed in the town during the rainfall.
In related news, there was widespread anger and frustration on Wednesday in Taraba State after candidates of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) sat for their English paper late into the night, following a heavy rain pour.
The students left the examination hall around midnight.
Parents and school owners have however, called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to query the delay and ensure such a situation does not repeat itself.
