‘We Cannot Keep Counting Bodies’ — Obi Demands Action On North-Central Attacks
Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has called for urgent action to end the killings and abductions ravaging parts of the North-Central.
Obi, in a statement on his X handle on Sunday, described the attacks in Benue, Plateau and Niger states as a national security emergency.
He said the violence was part of a wider insecurity crisis that could no longer be treated as isolated incidents.
“Nigeria is not officially at war, yet citizens are being attacked in their villages, abducted after prayers, driven from their homes and stripped of their farms,” Obi said.
The former Anambra governor urged governments at all levels to strengthen intelligence and rapid-response operations, rescue abducted Nigerians and prosecute those responsible.
He stressed that security agencies must prevent attacks instead of waiting to count casualties afterwards.
“We cannot keep counting bodies after every attack. We must prevent these attacks before they happen,” Obi said.
He warned that Nigeria must not become a “killing field”, insisting that protecting lives and property remained the most basic responsibility of government.
