US Lobbying Firm Labels Tinubu Threat To Nigeria, American Interests
A United States lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has described President Bola Tinubu as a threat to Nigeria’s stability and American interests, while backing recent criticism of his administration by a member of the U.S. Congress.
The firm made the remarks in a statement posted on its official X account on Friday, following comments by U.S. Congressman John James, who reportedly alleged on the floor of Congress that “tens of thousands of Nigerians have been slaughtered by terrorists ignored or enabled by the Nigerian government.”
Reacting to the congressman’s remarks, the lobbying firm, which was retained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under a 12-month contract reportedly valued at $1.2 million, thanked James for raising the issue before the U.S. Congress.
The firm claimed that more members of the U.S. Congress were beginning to express concerns about the Tinubu administration.
It further alleged that the Nigerian government was associated with corruption, disregard for the rule of law, judicial interference, and attempts to weaken political opposition ahead of the country’s next presidential election.
According to the statement:
“Members of Congress are taking action and speaking out against the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu as they learn of his alleged corruption, drug trafficking, disregard for law and order, tampering with the judiciary in an attempt to keep political opposition like the ADC from the upcoming Nigerian presidential election.”
The lobbying firm also dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu enjoys a close relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, insisting that such claims would not stop it from drawing attention to what it described as concerns over the Nigerian administration.
It concluded by alleging that President Tinubu represents “a clear and present threat” to both Nigeria’s stability and U.S. interests in the region.
Neither the Presidency nor the Federal Government had issued an official response to the lobbying firm’s latest claims as of the time of filing this report.
