US, Iran Resume Hostilities As Trump Promises ‘Hard’ Response
The United States and Iran have resumed hostilities after weeks of relative calm, with US President Donald Trump warning Tehran to expect a “hard” response.
The fresh escalation followed US strikes on Iran’s Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
Washington said the operation targeted Iranian rocket launchers to prevent Tehran from planting mines in the strategic shipping route.
Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting US military positions in the Middle East, including bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
“We’re going to hit them hard. There will be a response,” Trump said.
The exchange has renewed fears of a return to major hostilities between the two countries after months of conflict.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, however, called for dialogue, saying continued war was neither in Iran’s interest nor that of the wider region.
Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would maintain its economic pressure campaign against Tehran, as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz continue to disrupt global energy supplies.
The latest confrontation has further deepened the standoff between Washington and Tehran, with neither side showing signs of backing down.
