Tinubu To 2027 Rivals: ‘You Want My Seat? Come Fight for It’
President Bola Tinubu has warned political opponents plotting to unseat him in the 2027 presidential election that they should be ready for a tough contest, declaring that he will not surrender power without a fight.
Speaking on Tuesday while receiving members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu said politics is a contest in which every contender must earn victory.
“Those who would take it from me will try. They will try. All is fair in politics, and there is equal opportunity.
“I won’t offer them a red carpet. I won’t offer them the leash to tie me at home. No, we will wrestle each other to the finishing point. That’s the truth. That is fair in politics,” the President said.
Tinubu also defended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), dismissing allegations that the electoral umpire was biased.
According to him, critics questioning the credibility of the electoral process were only expressing fears about their own political fortunes.
The President further said the reforms introduced by his administration were beginning to yield results, pointing to the uninterrupted academic calendar in public universities as evidence.
He described the absence of strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as a major achievement, saying students can now complete their programmes without unnecessary disruptions.
On the economy, Tinubu acknowledged inheriting significant challenges from the previous administration but maintained that his government had stabilised the country and positioned it for prosperity.
He also addressed the long-standing demand for the return of mission schools to their original owners, noting that the responsibility rests with state governments rather than the Federal Government.
The President urged the Catholic bishops to engage governors directly on the issue, insisting there was no constitutional obstacle preventing states from returning the schools.
Tinubu concluded by calling for national unity, saying Nigeria’s security and development challenges require collective commitment and sustained efforts from all stakeholders.
